Merry Me Mother, To The One

Every girl dreams about her wedding day and each girl looks forward to become part of what is considered a league of the “mature”. But most of all, every young girl wants to be part of a fairytale. “Mărită-mă, mamă” (Marry me, mother to the one) is the phrase used by a young girl when confessing to her parents that she is ready for the next stage of her life.
The concept of the collection was based on the reconstruction and deconstruction of Romanian folk costume from a personal perspective, brought into modern era. The story is a personal vision of traditions from Țara Moților, known as- “Târgul de fete de pe Muntele Găina” (Maidens’Fair on Găina Mountain),

a tradition recognized for its sacred component. After days of extensive preparation, on the very top of this special mountain, girls would eagerly wait for marriage proposals from the boys. Worthy of mention is that sometimes, the wedding would take place there, in that very place and on that same special day which led to tradition claiming that the wedding would be a blessed one. In the end, no matter what the reason is for which two people get married, the wedding has a festive character and includes a lot of rituals. Therefore, the collection includes materials and textures such as cotton and leather along with accessories inspired from traditional Romanian dowry chests. The intention was to underline the union between the sacred and profane.
