CULTURE FETISHISM

The collection evolves around translating culturally inspired elements into fashion. this type of multicultural fashion, underlines our fascination for other cultures as well as our desire to welcome and embrace styles that come from other places. The inspiring point for this project came from using our imagination to go back in time, to the beginning of the 20th century, to meet Albert Khan, a rich French banker but also a photographer that traveled the world to capture and document different ethnic groups. Together with him, the designer began a trip around the world where he disguised himself in different characters when visiting various cultures.

It was then that he created a 'travel journal', where he was portrayed alongside luggages. However, these luggages do not appear nor do they exist in the collection to emphasize the idea that our inner feelings, thoughts and emotions are forms of baggage that we carry in our day to day lives. Thus, the concept of 'journey' and all that it implies, has been the red line that connected the entire project. The chromatics and volumes of this collection have been inspired by the aesthetics and art of Christo Vladimirov Javacheff and Jeanne-Claude, intertwined with the tailoring techniques of Julian Roberts.
